Is your diet working for you? 5 Questions to Ask, and what to do when it isn't.
I don't know about you but I am getting diet fatigue. Keto, Paleo, Low-Carb, High Protein, Low Fat (we already know this doesn't work, but people still do it), Carb Cycling, Macro Counting, vegan, vegetarian, Keto Vegan (yep this exists but it is super hard). the list feels like it goes on and on. As a Functional Nutritionist it is my job to flush out what might work for different people.
When people come to me and they have been following a particular eating style one of the questions we start with is "How is it working for you?" Sometimes the way they eat has been working, sometimes it hasn't, sometimes it might be time for a switch up.
When the answer to the question is "It isn't really working anymore" or "I think it works but I just don't feel well". That is where we work together to make a plan, develop goals and make some sustainable changes.
Where do we start?
Start with these 5 questions to motivate change and make some new goals.
1. How is what I am doing working for me?
2. What is the best thing about what I am doing with my diet?
3. What is the worst thing about what I am doing?
4. How do I feel emotionally with the way I am eating?
5. How do I feel physically with the way I am eating?
These are just a few basics. If you feel guilty with your eating style that might need to be explored, If you were losing weight and now your stuck at a plateau there might be a reason for that, If you eat and have no energy or feel worse then before you ate lets try to figure out what is going on.
So now what? Where do you go from here once the questions are answered?
That depends on what your goals are. You might need a nutrition coach, a life coach or a health coach to guide you. You might need a group of friends to try a "nutrition reset" with.
